Experienced Veterinary Nurse – Healthy Pets Veterinary Clinic

Permanent Full-Time | Part-Time Considered | Supportive Team & Opportunities to Learn

Are you an experienced Veterinary Nurse looking for a workplace where you genuinely enjoy coming to work, feel supported and have the opportunity to expand your skills?

At Healthy Pets Veterinary Clinic in Castlemaine, we're looking for a friendly, experienced Veterinary Nurse to join our team in a permanent position. Ideally, we're seeking someone full-time, but we're happy to consider part-time arrangements for the right person. We're a relaxed, close-knit team who love what we do, enjoy a laugh and genuinely look out for one another. We also offer a range of therapies beyond traditional veterinary medicine, making this a great opportunity for someone keen to learn something new!

A Little About Us

We care for small and large animals, from much-loved companion pets to farm animals, birds and reptiles. Our services include consultations, health checks, dentistry, surgery, X-ray and ultrasound. We also provide emergency care and routine treatment for a wide range of native wildlife. Joeys, wombats, possums and echidnas are just some examples of the many wildlife patients we help.

One of the things we're most proud of is our team culture. We work hard and take patient care seriously, but we also believe work should be enjoyable! There's often music playing, a little dancing between patients and plenty of laughs. Kind handling and small comforts are part of our nursing care. Then there's Siggy, our clinic cat and honorary ‘Practice Manager’, who supervises reception, tests the chairs and keeps everyone entertained!

More importantly, we're there for each other when it matters. Whether it's a challenging case, a busy afternoon or simply needing someone to lean on, you'll always have support. We regularly check in with one another and make time for team debriefs following difficult cases. We genuinely care about the wellbeing of our people, just as much as the animals we look after.

Something a little different about our clinic?

Alongside traditional veterinary care, we offer a range of complementary and holistic treatment options, including:

  • Laser therapy
  • Shockwave therapy
  • Acupuncture
  • Chinese herbal medicine, with a vet who specialises in this area
  • Naturopathic and holistic approaches to animal care

This is an opportunity to broaden your knowledge through practical learning and exposure to different approaches to veterinary medicine. Our team shares knowledge through hands-on patient care and wildlife care workshops, while supporting one another to grow.

The Opportunity

We're looking for someone who enjoys the variety of veterinary nursing and is happy to get involved in all aspects of clinic life, including helping to teach and support trainee nurses and students on study placement.

  • Permanent full-time opportunity, with part-time considered.
  • Varied nursing responsibilities across the clinic.
  • Opportunities to learn about complementary therapies and expand your nursing skills.
  • Monday to Friday roster, with rotating Saturday mornings (9:30am–1:30pm).
  • Weekday shifts generally between 8:30am and 5pm, with some later finishes (up to 7pm on Tuesdays).
  • Some flexibility with working days and hours is important, as our roster can vary depending on veterinary availability.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience working as a Veterinary Nurse.
  • Is confident and comfortable with a varied nursing workload and takes pride in providing excellent patient and client care.
  • Is confident working with wildlife, or willing to learn with support from our team.
  • Is curious and open to learning new skills and approaches to patient care.
  • Brings a positive attitude and enjoys working as part of a team.
  • Is flexible and willing to support their colleagues when things get busy.
  • Is willing to help teach and support trainee nurses and students on study placement.
  • Enjoys a workplace where professionalism and a little fun go hand in hand!

You don't need previous experience in holistic or complementary therapies. We're simply looking for someone who is interested in learning and keen to broaden their skills.

Why Join Us?

As part of the Vets Central network, you'll enjoy the benefits of being part of a wider veterinary community while still experiencing the close-knit, personal feel of our clinic.

Our benefits include:

  • Supportive, experienced veterinary and nursing team.
  • Great Place to Work Certified: Join a team that values and supports you!
  • Paid Parental Leave & Purrental Leave: We celebrate all families—furry ones included!
  • Access to VC Learning Academy – our online learning portal for your professional growth.
  • Employee Wellness Programs: We prioritize your well-being with access to our Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
  • Novated vehicle leasing options.
  • Fitness Passport Membership options.
