Job Description

Full-time Veterinarian | Thornbury Veterinary Hospital | Inner Melbourne

Are you an experienced vet who loves what you do, thrives in a bustling practice and genuinely enjoys building relationships with clients and their pets?

If so, we'd love to meet you!

We're looking for an experienced, full-time veterinarian to join our dynamic, well-established small-animal clinic in Melbourne's inner north.

We're a thriving practice with a loyal client base, a varied and interesting caseload, and a team that genuinely enjoys working together. Our days are full, and rarely dull — but that's part of what makes general practice so rewarding!

We pride ourselves on providing excellent veterinary care while building lasting relationships with our clients and their much-loved pets.

What's waiting for you?

  • Two hours free from scheduled consultations every weekday. We deliberately set aside a two-hour block in the middle of each weekday without scheduled consultations - allowing time for hospital patients, case management, callbacks and other clinical responsibilities, and this also means you always get your designated lunch break
  • A genuinely collaborative environment. We're a team that shares knowledge, discusses cases and supports one another. We value everyone's experience and believe great veterinary medicine is a team effort.
  • An amazing nursing team! Our experienced, capable and supportive nurses are an integral part of everything we do. They're skilled, proactive and genuinely committed to helping our vets deliver great patient care. You'll be working alongside a team that genuinely makes your working day easier.
  • Extra support in the consult room. Our consulting veterinarians share a veterinary assistant (VA) nurse to assist with consultations, patient handling and minor procedures, helping keep things running smoothly.
  • Plenty of variety in your working week. Enjoy a mix of different shifts where no two days are quite the same.
  • Great clients and interesting cases. We have a loyal client base who value our advice and genuinely care about their pets, along with plenty of variety to keep your clinical brain engaged.
  • The opportunity to be their vet. Build relationships, follow your patients over time and experience the satisfaction of providing continuity of care.

Who are we looking for?

We're looking for an experienced veterinarian who is confident in general practice, comfortable working across consulting, surgery and hospital duties, and enjoys the energy and variety of a bustling clinic.

Just as importantly, we're looking for someone who:

  • Genuinely enjoys working with people and understands that great client relationships are just as important as great veterinary medicine.
  • Communicates with warmth, empathy and confidence, helping clients feel informed, supported and comfortable with their pet's care.
  • Is organised, adaptable and able to manage their caseload while maintaining a high standard of patient care.
  • Takes ownership of their cases, including treatment plans, communication and follow-ups.
  • Enjoys collaborating with colleagues, sharing knowledge and contributing to a positive team environment.
  • Is approachable, supportive and happy to lend a hand wherever needed.

We value clinical experience, but we also know that the way you connect with clients, care for your patients and work with your team is what makes a truly great vet.
