Small Animal Vet

FIVE YEARS IN, WE'RE LOOKING FOR OUR FIFTH VET.

Five years ago, Melba Vet was a very different place.

We were one vet, one nurse, a brand-new clinic and only two patients on day one.

Fast forward to December and we'll be celebrating our fifth birthday.

We're now a team of 14, with four vets — and we're looking for our fifth.

We've grown a lot. But one thing hasn't changed:

We still care very much about making Melba Vet a nice place to work.

Not “nice” in the everyone gets a pizza on Friday kind of way.

We mean genuinely good.

Good medicine.
Good nursing support.
Good clients.
Interesting cases.
People who know what they're doing.
People who help each other.

And enough laughter in the back room that you occasionally forget you're at work.

We built Melba Vet around the idea that being a good vet shouldn't require sacrificing your entire life to the profession.

You should be able to care enormously about your patients AND go home on time.

You should be able to be ambitious about your medicine AND have a family, hobbies, holidays and a life.

You should be able to work somewhere small and independent without feeling like you're doing everything yourself.

And we think we've created something pretty special.

Our clients seem to agree — we've maintained a 5-star Google rating, and the feedback we get is often as much about how our team makes people feel as it is about the veterinary care itself.

SO, WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We're looking for a vet to join us for:

6 months of casual maternity leave cover,
OR
2–3 days per week permanent part time.

You'll get:

• A proper mix of consulting and surgery each day
• A high nurse-to-vet ratio, generally 2–3:1
• Up to $85/hour, depending on experience and special skills
• Bonus points if you're an ultrasound wizard — we'd love to make use of someone with strong imaging skills
• $3,000 CPD allowance, pro rata
• Barista-made coffee every day, because we take workplace wellbeing seriously
• A purpose-built, modern small-animal clinic with the equipment and facilities to do good medicine.

If this sounds like your kind of veterinary life, we'd love to hear from you.
