Small Animal Surgery Specialist or Registrar Visa Sponsor
Job Description
Cedar Mountain Vet Referral opened its door on 5th January 2026. We are a brand-new, state-of-the-art surgery and rehabilitation facility - the only centre of its kind in Western Australia. We are a boutique, small animal surgery and rehabilitation practice offering continuous, 24-hour patient care from Monday to Friday afternoon. Our caseload is varied and rapidly growing, so we need another surgeon.
We welcome applications from ACVS, ECVS, and ANZCVS small animal surgery specialists, as well as residency-trained registrars. You must be residency-trained from appropriate college. Eligibility for registration with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Western Australia is essential. Candidates who requires a sponsorship may be considered. You must be enthusiastic, love what you do, have a great communication skill with staff and clients, and love our patients. You must be passionate about surgery and have a caring nature. Special interest in a particular surgical field is welcome and encouraged. Although we are high paced, you will be well-supported. Discussion, mentorship, and advice can be provided.
Both full-time (4 days per week) and part-time (2–3 days per week) positions will be considered. We offer strong support, including technical assistance, ongoing training, and negotiable extended study leave for board-certification exams if needed.
You will enjoy high-quality case workups and surgery, supported by patient care veterinarians, skilled nursing staff, and a residency-trained anaesthetist. As an independent practice, we avoid corporate bureaucracy and maintain a calm, drama-free working environment.
Our team is relatively small, making us dynamic, flexible, and cohesive. We work with a MERAKI philosophy: doing what you love, putting your soul into your work, and showing true dedication. Your opinions and suggestions genuinely matter here, and decision-making is fast and collaborative, unlike in large multi-disciplinary referral hospitals.
We are equipped with a high-resolution digital radiography unit, CBCT, inhouse IDEXX blood test machine, MSK ultrasound, Arthrex PRP system, and a fully equipped rehabilitation facility (underwater treadmill, shockwave, class IV laser, TENS/NMES, PEMF) with two certified rehabilitation veterinarians (CCRP and CCRT) and a dedicated rehabilitation nurse on site. We will have an anaesthesia and a surgery intern from 2027, as well as hospital patient care veterinarians and nurses. There are two surgical theatres (soft tissue and orthopaedic). Surgical toys include various staples, bipolar sealing device, Synthes and Kyon orthopaedic kits, interlocking nails, IMEX ESF (linear, circular and hybrid), in-theatre mini-fluoroscopy and arthroscopy. Our caseload is 60% orthopaedic, 30% soft tissue, and 10% spinal surgeries. Depending on your special interest, we are willing to expand our inventory, and further training can be provided for a right candidate. Several outsourced high-field MRI is available in Perth. They are generally good accommodating urgent and elective cases.
Due to the nature of surgery and rehabilitation specialty practice, we also offer lameness evaluation and sports medicine.
We provide surgical assessment, diagnosis and treatment for surrounding general practitioners. Over 70 general practices throughout Western Australia have referred cases to this practice since opening. We are collaborative with other specialist centres and we occasionally refer cases each other.
If you are interested in our practice, you are welcome to visit and spend some time with us. We encourage candidates to stay for at least a few days to get a genuine feel for the environment and decide whether it is the right fit. For suitable candidates, we may consider providing free accommodation and transport during the visit.
You will have 1 week study leave and financial support. We will provide relocation support. 4 weeks annual leave plus 1week CPD leave and decent allowance is standard. Remuneration is expected to be very high (minimum $250K pa for a full-time), depending on candidate’s experience plus 12% super.
You will have the opportunity to closely follow your patients throughout their rehabilitation, with ongoing monitoring built into our practice. Seeing how quickly and successfully patients recover can be incredibly rewarding. If you value watching the outcomes of your surgery in real time, this is an ideal environment for you.
