Job Description

PART-TIME VETERINARIAN – FLEXIBLE HOURS | 1–3 DAYS PER WEEK

Lutwyche Veterinary Surgery | Brisbane Inner North

Experienced vet looking for veterinary medicine to fit around your life — rather than the other way around?

Perhaps you're returning to work after having children, looking for hours that work around school or family commitments, stepping back from full-time practice, moving towards semi-retirement, or simply wanting a more sustainable way to continue doing the job you enjoy.

Lutwyche Veterinary Surgery is an independent small-animal practice in Brisbane's inner north, and we're looking for an experienced veterinarian to join our friendly team for 1–3 days per week.
We can be genuinely flexible with days and hours. School-hours-style shifts, shorter days and regular fixed days can all be considered for the right person.
We're much more interested in finding the right vet than filling a particular roster.

A DIFFERENT PACE OF GENERAL PRACTICE

We believe good veterinary medicine takes time.

Our standard consultations are 30 minutes. We don't set individual revenue KPIs or billing targets, and we don't expect our vets to upsell.
We want you to use your experience and clinical judgement, have proper conversations with clients, and practise medicine you can stand behind.
We also believe a lunch break should actually be a lunch break. Our schedule includes protected break time, and we avoid routinely overbooking or squeezing more patients into an already full day.
If you're an experienced vet who still enjoys veterinary medicine but no longer wants the relentless pace that can come with full-time practice, we may be a very good fit.

THE ROLE

  • This is a part-time position for an experienced veterinarian, ideally 1–3 days per week.
  • The role primarily involves general small-animal consultations and medicine. Routine surgery and dentistry are available depending on your interests, but are not a requirement.
  • We understand that experienced vets can be at very different stages of life and career, so we're open to discussing a roster that genuinely works for you.

That might mean:

  • 1, 2 or 3 regular days per week
  • School-hours-style shifts
  • Shorter working days
  • Fixed days each week
  • Hours that work around family commitments
  • Gradually returning to clinical work after a career or parental break
  • Reducing your hours after years of full-time practice

You don't need to be looking for the next step up the career ladder. If you're an experienced clinician who wants to do good medicine, look after your patients and go home at a sensible time, we'd be very happy to hear from you.

WHO WOULD SUIT US?

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has at least 3 years of small-animal clinical experience
  • Is registered or eligible for registration as a veterinarian in Queensland
  • Is confident managing general-practice cases independently
  • Values having enough time with each patient and client
  • Communicates well with clients and colleagues
  • Has a kind, practical and thoughtful approach to patient care
  • Is reliable and comfortable working within a small team
  • Values flexibility and a sustainable approach to veterinary practice

This position is not suitable for new graduates, as we're looking for someone who is already comfortable working independently in general practice.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM US

  • Genuinely flexible part-time hours
  • 1–3 days per week
  • School-hours-style shifts considered
  • Shorter days considered
  • Regular, predictable roster if preferred
  • 30-minute standard consultations
  • No individual revenue KPIs or billing targets
  • No commission-based pressure
  • No expectation to upsell
  • Genuine clinical autonomy
  • Protected lunch breaks
  • Thoughtfully managed appointment scheduling
  • Manageable caseload
  • Supportive nursing team
  • Independent, non-corporate practice
  • Friendly and established clientele
  • Competitive remuneration based on experience

ABOUT OUR CLINIC

Lutwyche Veterinary Surgery is an established, privately owned small-animal practice with a loyal local client base.

We're a small team and value experience, good communication, kindness, common sense and helping each other. Our focus is on providing personalised, practical and compassionate veterinary care rather than seeing the maximum possible number of patients each day.

Our clinic is equipped with in-house IDEXX laboratory equipment, digital radiography, ultrasound and multiparameter anaesthetic monitoring, with the equipment needed for a broad general-practice caseload.

Maybe you still love being a vet. You just don't want your job to take over your life.

You might be raising a family. You might be returning after some time away. You might have spent years working full-time and simply want to slow things down.

Whatever the reason, experience doesn't stop being valuable just because you want to work fewer hours.

If you're looking for a small, independent practice where your experience will be valued and your life outside work respected, we'd love to hear from you.
