New Graduate Small Animal Vet New Grad Friendly
Job Description
Calling all new graduates who want to do 100% small animal work in a supportive rural setting!
Okay, this is me; ChatGPT free and talking from the heart, rather than copying and pasting the same old veterinary job advertisement you see everywhere.
Delatite Veterinary Services – my very own baby!
I started DVS in 2011, initially doing 100% horses and livestock. Three years later, I was so busy I was turning work away. I decided it was time to introduce a small animal clinic to complement the large animal side of the business.
Blink, and here we are more than a decade later! We now have a renovated, well-equipped veterinary clinic, sitting on 5 acres in beautiful Mansfield, with a team of 6 vets.
So, why work as a small animal vet in a rural clinic?
Well, in my opinion, you get the best of both worlds.
You get your everyday consults, vaccinations, desexings and routine surgery, with the occasional emergency thrown in to keep things interesting. You get clients who are often incredibly appreciative of your work, who say yes to treatment, and who allow you to build relationships, develop your clinical confidence and become the vet you want to be.
Now, a little honesty about us. DVS hasn't always got everything right. Over the years, we have employed a number of new graduates, and one thing we have learned is that teaching someone to be a confident mixed-practice vet is a BIG ask.
Learning small animal medicine and surgery is a huge undertaking in itself. Add in large animal work, changing hats between smallies in the morning and largies in the afternoon, and suddenly the learning curve becomes very steep. So, we have decided to do something a little differently.
We want a small animal-only new graduate!
Our current veterinary team is made up of:
- Vet 1 – 100% large animal
- Vets 2 and 3 – 100% small animal
- Vets 4 and 5 – 50% small animal / 50% large animal
Our new graduate would be joining and strengthening our small animal team, working alongside our two dedicated small animal vets whom each have 10 yrs + each high level experience. Our teaching method is to follow problem lists and use rounds every day at 10am to discuss the cases. Ultrasound is a backbone of the practice, including inhouse Echo’s. There is not much equipment we don’t have, and if there is something you feel passionate about, just let me know.
The idea is simple: give you the opportunity to concentrate on becoming a great small animal vet, without the added pressure of learning two completely different areas of veterinary medicine at once, while enjoying the great rural lifestyle of Mansfield.
Please send your CV to anna@delatitevetservices.com.au, I look forward to hearing from you.
